Temperature

TIRUCHI, DEC. 19. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 29.9 degree Celsius and a minimum of 19.6 degree Celsius.

Killed

Rajasekhar (29) of Pettavaithalai, a two-wheeler rider, was killed in a road accident at Mutharasanallur in the district today. He was riding a motorcycle when the vehicle collided head on with a car proceeding to Mayanur from Tiruchi. The car driver, who was injured, was admitted to a hospital here.

Training programme

The training programme conducted by the District Institute of Education and Training for the teachers of the special child labour school concluded here yesterday.

Training was imparted to over 60 teachers on handling classes in a simple way in two sessions from Dec. 6 onwards. The Collector, V. Pandian, the chief guest at the valediction of the course, gave away certificates. The Project Director of the CHEERS, Jaisee Suwetha, offered their felicitations.

Meeting

A meeting of office-bearers of Parent-Teacher Associations of Mannachanallur Panchayat Union primary and middle schools was held recently. It discussed infrastructure facilities in the local schools. The chairman of the Mannachanallur Union, Ilangovan, explained the steps taken for improving the infrastructure and standard of education.

Felicitated

The Director of the Public Libraries, Kulasekaran, visited the District Central Library here recently. He felicitated the people who had become patrons of the library by donating Rs. 1,000. The District Library Officer, R. Chadrasekaran, was present.

Plea for water

A meeting of leaders of the constituents of the Democratic Progressive Alliance held at Thuraiyur recently called upon the Thuraiyur Municipality to take steps to supply protected drinking water in the local bus stand. It urged the municipality to regularise the services of sanitary workers.

Limit increased

The Tiruchi District Library Authority Employees Cooperative Society has proposed to increase the maximum borrowing limit from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. one lakh for its members. A press release of the special officer issued here today said the society has been making profit continuously for many years and declared a dividend of 12 per cent last year.
