BANGALORE, DEC. 19. The City Crime Branch sleuths arrested two persons on charge of illegally transferring cooking gas from domestic cylinders to commercial cylinders used by autorickshaws and for lighting equipment in an unsafe manner. They used to buy domestic gas and sell it at a higher price after transferring it to commercial cylinders. The police said they seized 50 cylinders bearing the names of LPG manufacturers such as HP, Indane and Bharath Petroleum and small cylinders used by autorickshaws and those used for lighting purposes, "filling rods," and weighing machines, all estimated at Rs. 40,000. The accused, identified as M. Basavaraju (36) and A. Kumar (23) both of Konanakunte, allegedly transferred gas into commercial cylinders at outlets at Ganapatipura, Chunchagatta Mian Road and broiler shop in Amrutnagar Main Road at Konanakunte. The owner of the outlet at Ganapatipura is missing, the police said. The police acted on a tip off.
Two killed in mishap
Two persons were killed in road accidents since Saturday night. The police said that an 85-year-old man was killed while crossing the road at Kalyananagar, Banaswadi, around 10.30 p.m. on Saturday. The police said he was hit by an autorickshaw. In a hit-and-run accident, Maheshkumar (22) of Ulsoor was killed when a vehicle knocked the moped he was riding on Old Madras Road around 3.30 a.m. on Sunday near Ramakrishna Mutt.
Sentenced
The Fast Track Sessions Judge-II, K. Nagaiah Shetty, has sentenced a man to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years for assaulting a police constable with a knife and imposed a fine of Rs. 3,000 on his brother Narasimha for obstructing police officials from performing their duties. When Sarala Somaiah, woman police inspector (Anti-dowry Cell, Corps of Detectives) had gone with a search warrant to their house in Anandanagar on October 23, 2000, Narasimha, allegedly assaulted police constable, Peethambara Singh, with a knife while his brother prevented the officials from performing their duties. The warrant was issued as Nagamani of Gangasandra, Malur taluk in Kolar district and the wife of Narasimha had alleged that the brothers were harassing her for dowry.
