Dog menace at Kesavadasapuram

Sir, - Of late, the P&T staff quarters at Kesavadasapuram have been infested with stray dogs, posing a threat to the safety of the residents, especially the children. Though the matter has been taken up with the city corporation several times, there is no action yet.

The much talked about dog catching and sterilisation programme over the years has proved to be futile, and cases of rabies are on the increase. Recently, there was a report that there had been scarcity of anti-rabies vaccine.

The authorities are requested to take immediate action.

Bal Payyannur,

Kesavadasapuram.

Road widening

Sir, - Since the Government has chosen Kudappanakkunnu as the place for constructing a civil station for Thiruvananthapuram, it is wise for the PWD to take over the widening work on the Peroorkada-Mannanthala Road right now. The road is very narrow and curvy, which needs straightening out. This road can have the same breadth as that of the road from Kesavadasapuram to Plamood. The broadened road can also be used as a bypass for redirecting some of the long- distance buses coming from Kottayam side through M.G. Road, which adds to the traffic congestion in the city.

The PWD need not wait for the completion of the civil station to start the expansion work. The Public Works Minister may include the project in the next budget.

K. Viswanathan,

Thycaud.

ATM facility

Sir, - ATM counters are becoming a usual feature everywhere and it is an easy way of banking nowadays. However, it seems there is no facility in the ATM to limit the withdrawal so as to retain the minimum balance needed for the maintenance of the account. One has to pay a fine to the bank whenever the balance goes below the minimum limit. It is necessary to introduce a system to limit the amount of withdrawal.

M. Ravindranathan,

Kowdiar.

Dangerous billboards

Sir, - There are advertisement boards on top of many buildings in the city, which pose a threat to the public. Authorities concerned may look into the matter seriously and arrange to remove such hoardings immediately.

Karamana Manikantan Nayar,

Vanchiyoor.
