Railway Division wins trophy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 19 . The Thiruvananthapuram Division of Southern Railway has won the Rajbhasha trophy for the second best Central Government establishment in promoting the use of Hindi as official language. The Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Sujatha Jayaraj, received the award from the Kerala University Vice-Chancellor, M.K. Ramachandran Nair, at the valedictory of the Joint Hindi Fortnight Celebrations organised by the Town Official Language Implementation Committee.

P. Bhaskaran honoured

Rich tributes were paid to the noted poet and lyricist P. Bhaskaran at a function held here today to celebrate his 80th birthday. The function was organised by Rachana, the cultural wing of the Kerala Secretariat Employees Association. The highlight of the occasion was a musical tribute in the form of a `ganamela' by M.S. Nassim which included 52 songs penned by Mr. Bhaskaran. Later, Thirunellore Karunakaran presented a shawl to Mr. Bhaskaran and offered felicitations. The association president, K. Jayachandran, presided over the function.

Mantra Japa Yajnam

The Ananthancadu Sree Nagaraja Temple Trust is conducting an Akhanda Maha Mantra Japa Yajnam here in connection with the Golden Jubilee of the Abhedasrama Mahamantralayam. The Yajnam will be held at the ashramam from 7 a.m., a pressnote issued here today said.

Medical camp held

As many as 375 children turned up for a medical camp and awareness class organised by the State Child Welfare Council for the inmates of the Sri Chithra Home here today. A team of doctors led by the SAT Hospital Superintendent, Dr. Rajmohan, examined the students and distributed medicines. The camp was co-sponsored by Mukti, a city-based NGO.
