Demand for special recruitment

KOCHI, DEC. 19. The media cell of the Archdiocese of Verapoly has urged the State Government to conduct a special recruitment for clearing the backlog of jobs for backward classes in the State service. The statement of K.K. Narendran, who headed the commission for ascertaining the representation of backward communities, that special recruitment was not possible was made under pressure from various quarters, a statement issued by the cell convener, Shiju Kelanthara, said. As Mr. Narendran's statement has created confusion among the backward classes, the State Government should intervene to clear the confusion, it said.

Jubilee celebrations conclude

The Mar Thoma Metropolitan, Philipose Mar Chrysostom, has said that the world created by God had been made ugly by man and that a jubilee celebration was time for redeeming what was lost. He was speaking at the valedictory function of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Sharon Mar Thoma Church in the city on Sunday.

One should be able to give up comforts to build a new society and a new world. Sin was a state of mind, he said.

K. T. Thomas, former judge of the Supreme Court, delivered the keynote address. K. Babu, MLA, took part in the function.

Pre-exam coaching

The Samskara cultural organisation will organise a free three-day pre-examination coaching programme for SSLC students. The programme will begin on December 28 at the Samskara reading room, Palarivattom. Those interested should contact the secretary of the organisation before December 27.
