Kochi
By Our Staff Reporter
KOCHI, DEC. 19. The Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, today played down the achievements during the 100-day programme of his Government saying it was no big thing. He, however, added that the Government had succeeded in completing many pending projects by fixing a deadline. Mr. Chandy was speaking at the inauguration of the renovated Customs Jetty at Fort Kochi. He said that the coming year would see the Government machinery being activated to complete development projects in a time-bound manner. He said that indefinite delays in completing these projects had become a curse for the State. "The delay not only leads to huge loss of money but also denies benefits to the people," Mr. Chandy said. The Chief Minister said that Mattancherry and Fort Kochi would get their due share of funds from the Goshree committee.
MLA's request
Earlier, V.K. Ebrahim Kunhu, MLA from Mattancherry, who had spent Rs. 25 lakhs from his Government fund for the renovation of the jetty, requested the Chief Minister to allot to Mattancherry a part of the funds meant for the development of Kochi's islands. Presiding over the function, Mr. Kunhu said that development was not taking place in Fort Kochi as investment was flowing into the Ernakulam mainland. He called upon the Chief Minister to stop the neglect of Fort Kochi. Paul Mampilly, PWD executive engineer, welcomed the gathering. C.U. Anas, Corporation councillor, L. Mohanakumar, director of the State Water Transport Department, K.N. Sateesh, managing director of the Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC), and V.H.M. Rafeeque, secretary of the Cochin Thuramugha Thozhilali Union, were among those who spoke on the occasion. The Chief Minister later boarded the Sagara Rani, the luxury cruiser of KSINC, along with the Transport Minister, N. Sakthan, and Mr. Kunhu. They had lunch aboard the vessel.
