HYDERABAD, DEC. 20. The Director of the National Bal Bhavan, New Delhi, Madhu Panth, has called upon parents and teachers to encourage the creative potential in children and enable them to think originally. Dr.Madhu Panth who inaugurated the Computer Cell at the Jawahar Bal Bhavan at Public Gardens here on Monday, said that the Balashree awards instituted in 1995 had given scope for children to exhibit their creativity in various fields--in performing arts, fine arts, science and creative writing- and had succeeded to some extent in changing the mindset of teachers, parents and policy makers. So far, 141 children from various States had won the Balashree awards and there was a proposal to conduct a camp for all the winners to evaluate their progress at Delhi in February.
New cell soon
She disclosed that a `Creativity Cell' would be set up with the database of children who had won the Balashree awards and those who came up to the national level so as to interact, review and monitor the progress of these children and extend any required help. Apart from tapping, nurturing and enhancing the creative potential in children, the National Bal Bhavan was inculcating awareness to protect and conserve the environment--physical, social and cultural and launching `Sancharan' (ripple) project to take this message to the people through a multi-media package and audio- cassettes in different languages. The Bal Bhavan was also planning to have a programme for gifted children who show exceptional talent at a young age. The other projects are translating the primary school curriculum into activity-oriented work to help children think independently and innovatively and documentation of the Balashree process where several precautions were taken to select the awardees on the basis of their creativity.
