Uncertainty over three Transco directors

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, DEC. 20. The much-awaited orders from the Government on the continuance or otherwise of the three directors of the APTransco, whose term expired on December 4, have been elusive since the past 13 days.

The directors for Transmission, Coordination and Projects -- G. Kesava Rao, P.M.K. Gandhi and J. V. Pandurangam -- are continuing on oral orders from the top brass of the Energy Department, perhaps with the tacit consent of the Chief Minister's office.

The Government has kept these appointments in animated suspension by not issuing written orders.

The void has come at a time when the power situation is uncertain with shortage looming large over the State.

It is learnt that the Government's indecision is due to its policy of not taking back retired persons. Officials in Vidyuth Soudha, however, cite cases of the Government retaining retired persons in various power utilities and even appointing them as directors.
