TIRUPATI, DEC. 20. The Telugu Association of North America (TANA) will conduct the third festival of folk arts at the Mahati auditorium here on December 22 and 23. The Chief Minister, Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy, will attend the festival. Addressing a media conference here on Monday, the chairman of TANA's cultural wing, Sarath Chandra Kompalle, called the festival an attempt to preserve the ethnic and folk arts of the Telugus for posterity. Troupes representing various art forms from across the State would take part in the festival, while seminars would be conducted on steps mooted for language development, livelihood issues of the artistes, etc.
Entries invited
The Minister for Higher Education, Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao, will inaugurate the fete on Wednesday, while Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy will attend the valedictory session the next day. On the occasion, the Gidugu Ramamurthy award would be presented to noted linguist Badriraju Krishnamurthy. The co-chairman, Alluri Rani, was also present at the meet. The TANA, in association with "Katha Sahithi,'' a literary body, is conducting a novel/short story competition to unearth local talent in view of the 15th TANA meet to be held at Detroit, USA, from July 1. The best novel and short story will be given a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh and Rs.25,000, respectively. Writers from anywhere in the world can send entries, duly accompanied by a self-declaration that it is his/her original work and that it has not been sent to any magazine for publication. The entries, reflecting real life situations, should be sent before 31 March, 2005 by post to Post Box No.1626, H.P.O., Secunderabad 500003 or by courier to Katha Sahithi, 164, Ravi colony, Trimulghery, Secunderabad-15. The selected entries would be published in a renowned magazine, besides the TANA's souvenir, "Telugu Paluku,''
