Letters to the Editor
Sir, I thank The Hindu for the articles, tributes, encomiums to M.S. Subbulakshmi. The newspaper has been in existence throughout the great lady's life and has written extensively about her. We will be able to listen to the golden voice of the Meera of our times through various modern appliances, and read about her in The Hindu.
A.J. Rangarajan,
Sir, I recall a meeting between my late mother R. Annalakshmi and M.S. during a marriage. When my mother had some questions about the lyrics of Kurai onrum illai, M.S. asked her to sing the particular stanza and clarified her doubts. When my mother finished M.S. praised her voice and said that she sang exactly like her!
G. Hariharan,
Sir, M.S.' Kurai Onrum illai has touched millions. It brought solace and soothed the hearts of countless rasikas.
Susila Chandramouli,
Sir, Living near a temple, I wake up each morning to M.S.'s soulful rendering of Venkatesa Suprabhatam. Forged in the classical rigour of India's spiritual heritage, her music breaks into what Keats describes as the sweetness of "unheard melodies," the supreme bliss of "Nada Brahma."
Jacob George,
