Jail term for employing 12-year-old

PONDICHERRY, DEC. 20. The Judicial Magistrate (I) of Pondicherry, Swarnam Natarajan, has sentenced J. Murugan, owner of an auto works unitat Sedarapet near here to undergo three months imprisonment for engaging S. Satheesh, a 12-year-old boy, in his unit in contravention of Section 3 of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986.

The Labour Inspector, during an inspection of the unit in April 2002, found that the proprietor had employed the boy, following which a case was filed before the court, said a release.
