Man kills self

By Our Staff Reporter

SANGAREDDY, DEC. 20. Unable to bear alleged harassment by his wife, a man torched himself to death today at Mutrazpalli village in Gajwel mandal of Medak district.

U. Satyanarayana (45) poured kerosene over himself and set himself on fire in a fit of anger when he found his wife consuming alcohol early in the morning. His wife Sasikala (40) is allegedly an alcoholic and was not able to leave the habit despite his efforts. The Gajwel police said Satyanarayana was afraid of losing the respect of villagers due to his wife's habit.

Silent protest

Nellore: A `humiliated' husband staged a `silent demonstration' (mouna poratam) at the II Town police station, Nellore, on Monday.

According to the police, Suresh Kumar, who runs a coaching centre at Kavali, has been continuously `harassed' by his wife. Divorce plans reportedly hit a snag. Unable to bear the humiliation any longer, Suresh Kumar approached the II Town police station today and started expressing his protest silently. Even at 8 p.m. he was at the station.

The police who are familiar with cases relating to harassment of wives by husbands, are now in a piquant situation and are consulting their superiors.
