Adilabad tense after clash

By Our Correspondent

ADILABAD, DEC. 20. Tension gripped the town on Monday after a clash between two groups of youth took communal overtones on Sunday night. One person was hospitalised with minor injuries. On Monday, five persons from both communities were arrested by the police.

According to the Adilabad DSP, K. Sarveswara Rao, four youths were allegedly involved in a skirmish with two persons of a particular community who had set up a stall at the Jatara. Following this, a large number of youths belonging to one community allegedly beat up a youth.

As the situation threatened to go out of hand, the police swung into action and stepped up patrolling in the town, especially in sensitive areas. A large number of BJP and Shiv Sena activists protested against the alleged beating up of the youth. They also submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police, Kripanand Tripathi Ujela.
