Focus on economic development

NEW DELHI DEC. 20. The Indian Economic Development and Research Association organised its 32nd national seminar on "National Economic Development Through Individual Contributions" in the Capital this past week. The Rajasthan Governor, Pratibha Patil, was the chief guest on the occasion. The aim of the seminar was to highlight the contributions and efforts of many individuals and organisations in the field of industry, commerce, health, education, information technology, sports and tourism.

Ushering in New Year

NEW DELHI DEC. 20. The Indian Council for Japanese

Culture organised a cultural programme titled "Antar -- Raga'' at the Indian International Centre here on Sunday. Masako Sato gave a Kathak performance based on the Sakura poems by Raj Bhudiraja. There was also a sitar recital by Kenji Inoue. The programme was organised to say goodbye to 2004 and usher in the New Year.

Energy conservation week ends

NEW DELHI DEC. 20. Northern Railway's "Energy Conservation Week", which began on December 14, culminated today with a seminar on "Energy Conservation" where various methods that could help the department in conserving energy were discussed. While appreciating the pro-active initiatives taken by the various departments through intensive-analysis and reforms in operating procedures for optimal utilisation of energy, Northern Railway General Manager, R.R. Jaruhar, asked for ensuring energy management in design of buildings and stressed the need for great orientation amongst staff, and development of skills and expertise to manage energy.

Books released

NEW DELHI DEC. 20. The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Contemporary Studies in association with Friedrich Naumann Stiftung released two books on Indian economy today. The books were released by the Chairman of the Nationl Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, V. Krishnamurthy, who also delivered the keynote address on the occasion.
