NEW DELHI, DEC. 20. The indifferent attitude of Northern Railway authorities has left a large number of examinees, who had applied for recruitment in its medical department, a dejected lot. These examinees from different parts of the country have alleged "harassment'' as their test was cancelled without any prior notice and they came to know about it only after reaching the Capital. Northern Railway had advertised about the recruitment for the posts of substitute lab assistant and staff nurses. Subsequently it despatched call letters to eligible candidates to appear for a practical test at Northern Railway's Central Hospital in the Capital between December 15 and 30 in different batches. However, the examinees now allege that it was only after reaching the Capital to appear for the test on their respective dates that they came to know through a notice put up at the hospital that the exam had been cancelled. And when they approached Northern Railway's headquarters at Baroda House, they were neither given any reason nor allowed to meet the Northern Railway General Manager, R.R. Jaruhar, to lodge a protest. Now, a group of candidates have written to Mr. Jaruhar asking for refund of all expenses incurred by them in filling up the forms, travelling to Delhi and their stay here. They have also asked Northern Railway to give priority to them in any of its future recruitment drive. Dejected over the entire episode, Jeewan Kumar, who arrived from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, said he was not the only one who had to face great difficulty in finding an accommodation in Delhi as he knew no one in the city. Also, he had to face mental harassment due to lackadaisical attitude of Northern Railway.
