Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Election Commission deserves to be praised for lodging an FIR against the Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad, for distributing 100-rupee notes among people in a Dalit locality. Since he is a Cabinet Minister, his act assumes greater significance. The BJP's demand for a one-day polling in Bihar and Jharkhand seems quite logical.
Anuj Sharma,
Sir, The distribution of hundred rupee notes among RJD supporters by one who is of the rank of Cabinet Minister is a matter of serious concern. The demand for a single-phase election in Bihar and Jharkhand seems justified.
The Election Commission has sent strong signals to the Minister at the right time. The postponement of the RJD rally scheduled for Thursday proves it.
A. Ashok Kumar,
Sir, Does the editorial suggest that the Minister need not have acted with propriety if the legion of opponents was not watching his every move? What Mr. Lalu Prasad has done is far too blatant an attempt to induce the Bihari voters to vote for his party.
S. Thyagarajan,
Sir, The editorial seems to suggest that if you are on a winning track you need not resort to skulduggery.
Sir, The Election Commission's action against Mr. Lalu Prasad is appropriate. It should now derecognise his party for breaching the model code of conduct.
