Study raises hopes over Neradi barrage
By Our Special Correspondent
SRIKAKULAM,
DEC. 21.
Receipt of the Pune-based Central Water Power Research Station's (CWPRS) `physical model study' report which is stated to be positive to the stand of the Andhra Pradesh Government is one more step that will clear the way for construction of a barrage across the Vamsadhara river near Neradi village of Bhamini mandal. There is a dispute between the Governments of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa over the construction of the barrage at Neradi -- Phase 11 of Stage 11 of the Vamsadhara Project -- which would result in submersion of a little over 100 acres of land in Orissa. The Rs.863.43-crore (as per 1999-2000 Standard Scheduled Rates) Neradi barrage is the long-cherished dream of people of Srikakulam district.
