Maoists oppose Gyanendra's visit to India
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD,
DEC. 21.
The Communist Party of India (Maoist) has opposed the proposed visit of king Gyanendra of Nepal to India and said the visit was only intended to muster support from India suppress the Nepal people's uprising. Mr Gyanendra is slated to visit India from Thursday.
In a statement here on Monday, the general secretary of the Maoist party, Ganapathy, said Mr Gyanendra's visit was also intended to muster more support from four States--West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and Bihar--bordering the kingdom, to put down the people's movement with an iron hand. Alleging that the Indian Army was actively assisting its counterpart in Nepal in counter-revolutionary operations, Mr Ganapathy cautioned that India would "meet the same defeat" as it did in Sri Lanka in 1980 after sending the Indian Peace Keeping Force.
