Ravi Subramaniam secured: police

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, DEC. 21. Has the special investigation team handling the Sankararaman murder case — in which the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, is one of the prime accused — arrested the elusive contractor Ravi Subramaniam?

Since late Monday night there have been rumours that Ravi Subramaniam had "surrendered" before the Koyambedu police here. Earlier reports suggested that he could have committed suicide. Police had denied both the reports yesterday.

A senior police official when contacted today would only say that "we have secured him and arrangements are being made to produce him before the Kancheepuram Magistrate."

Ravi Subramaniam is the second accused in the murder of the Varadarajaperumal temple manager, Sankararaman, and the prosecution has alleged that he had arranged Appu to carry out the murder.

These two and the Kanchi Acharya have been charged with conspiring to murder the manager.

Two days ago, Appu alias Krishnaswamy, was arrested and he is now in police custody at Kancheepuram.

With the arrest of Ravi Subramaniam and his interrogation, the police should be in a position to wrap up the case and move towards filing a chargesheet in the case.
