SAMSTHAN NARAYANAPUR (NALGONDA DT.), DEC. 21. An 18-year-old girl of Puttapaka village in Samsthan Naryanapur mandal has approached mahila sangham and the police seeking their help in marrying her lover, who turned hostile to the wedding proposal. The girl, who squatted in front of the boy's house along with about 1,500 villagers on Monrday, waited at Naryanapur police station from 9 a.m. till reports came in last demanding police intervention. "He must marry me lest I should self-immolate in front of his house. My family has lost respect because of me. I'll happily die after marrying him,'' the girl said. She said the boy had refused to accept her with an eye on dowry. "We have been together for the last 18 months and the entire village has come to know about our relationship. Since my family is not in a position to give dowry, he is disowning me,'' she said.
No relation: boy
Interestingly, the boy, a small time moneylender, said that he did not have any relation with her. "I know her but I have no relationship with her. I am ready to accept any punishment if found guilty in court,'' he said. However, the president, Chandur division mahila sangham, Chukka Yellamma, said that "we will stand by the girl.''
She alleged that the police were not cooperating with the victim.
