CHAMARAJANAGAR, DEC. 21. The Deputy Commissioner, Harsh Gupta, has promised to improve amenities in Chamarajanagar in four months. The Deputy Commissioner told presspersons at a "Samvada" programme here on Tuesday that the district administration can take a Rs. 20-crore loan under the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development Programme. He said various departments have been asked to submit proposals to prepare a master plan for development. A vegetable market complex will be built in the town at a cost of Rs. 23 lakhs. A blueprint will be prepared to develop and upgrade the district hospital. Mr. Gupta said the Government has appointed six specialist doctors to the district hospital. Bu only one specialist has reported for duty. Three doctors will be appointed on contract. Ten acres of land has been purchased for Rs. 20 lakhs at Galipura Extension to distribute 1,300 sites to the people. He said the construction of 250 houses at Mahadeva Prasad Extension in Gundlepet has been entrusted to Nirmiti Kendra. He said 7,500 tonnes of rice released as part of draught relief package has been distributed. The draught relief work has been entrusted to self-help groups and disbursal of rice has been entrusted to gram panchayats. He said nearly 50 fair price shops have been penalised for charging more while disbursing the ration to the public.
