Somnath invites NDA leaders

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI. Dec. 21. The Lok Sabha Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee, has invited the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and other leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to meet him at a mutually "convenient time and date." The written invitation is in response to the statement by the NDA on Monday, that its leaders would meet the Speaker to complain that they were being unfairly blamed for disruptions in Parliament.

Mr. Chatterjee reportedly saw the NDA statement late on Monday night and immediately despatched his response. In his letter to the NDA chairman, Mr. Chatterjee said that he had learnt of the NDA desire to meet him and discuss issues related to the functioning of Parliament.

Mr. Chatterjee said he appreciated the fact the NDA was concerned about the smooth functioning of Parliament and was happy to invite Mr. Vajpayee and his NDA colleagues. According to sources, there had been no response to the invitation by the NDA.
