TIRUCHI, DEC. 21. The BHEL School of Carnatic Music and Dance, Saraswathi Vidyalayam, organised a Carnatic vocal concert recently in memory of music maestro M. S. Subbulakshmi. The renderings of `krithis' popularised by the late singer were sung by Jayalakshmi B. Sarma, to the accompaniment of violin by T.H. Vasantha, and mridangam by Rengarajan. P. Sooriyanarayanan, Senior Deputy General Manager, BHEL, and secretary of the Vidyalaya, recalled the benefit programme rendered by the late singer, which enabled the start of the institution three decades ago. A.K. Mathur, Executive Director, BHEL, and patron of the Vidyalaya, presented mementos and felicitated the artistes. K. Thirumalai, General Manager, BHEL, and the president of the Vidyalaya, and several other senior officials participated.
