Letters to the Editor
Sir, The arrest of Avnish Bajaj, CEO of baazee.com, is inappropriate. His website was used by unscrupulous elements to post obscene material for sale. If this is an offence, then all the publications that carry advertisements of friendship clubs and dating clubs should be held guilty.
Ashutosh Srivastava,
Sir, Agreed, Mr. Bajaj cannot be held responsible for the items posted on the baazee.com website for sale. But surely, the company should have a department to screen the items before they are put up on the site?
Sir, It is the company's duty to put in place a mechanism that ensures such things do not happen.
N. Nageswaran,
Sir, In all the hue and cry over the arrest, the issue being ignored is the crime itself. Undoubtedly it is improper to say that the CEO was directly involved in it. However, since the website was used to commit a serious crime, someone has to be held responsible.
Pradeep Narayanan,
Sir, The organisers of a used-car bazaar do not vouch for the claims of the sellers. But this does not mean stolen cars can be sold there.
The onus is on the organisers to devise mechanisms by which the documents of the displayed cars are verified. This should hold true for websites too.
