ONGC triumphs

NEW DELHI, DEC. 22. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) defeated Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) 2-1 to lift the trophy in the final of the 24th Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) inter-unit tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex here on Wednesday.

The results:

Team (final): ONGC beat Indian OIL 2-1 (Vinod Sridhar bt Sunil Kumar 6-3, 6-1; Vijay Kannan lost to Prahlad Srinath 6-1, 3-6, 4-6; Vijay Kannan and Ajay Ramaswamy bt Prahlad Srinath and Sunil Kumar 6-1, 6-4).

Third place: IBP beat OIL `A' 2-1 (T. S. Bhandari lost to Anshuman Datta 4-6, 7-5, 2-6; Saurav Panja bt Chandrasekar Mohanty 1-6, 6-2, 6-2; Saurav Panja and Enrico Piperno bt Anshuman Datta and Chandrasekar Mohanty 6-0, 6-1).

Singles (pre-quarterfinals): Sunil Kumar bt Raj Kanwar 6-4, 6-3; Kamala Kannan bt Chandrasekar Mohanty 6-3, 6-3; Vishaal Uppal bt Vasudeva Reddy 6-2, 6-2; Ajay Ramaswamy bt S. Narendranath 6-4, 6-3; Prahlad Srinath bt Ramanuj Datta 6-3, 7-5; Vijay Kannan bt Anshuman Datta 6-2, 6-3; Saurav Panja bt Hakim Ali 6-1, 6-1; Vinod Sridhar bt Shivkumar Palani 6-2, 6-2.
