Irrigation projects: Minister turns to non-resident Andhras
By Our Staff Reporter
TIRUPATI,
DEC. 22.
The Minister for Higher Education, Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao, has requested non-resident Andhras to take part in the Government's ambitious plan of completing irrigation projects.
Speaking after inaugurating the two-day festival of folk arts being conducted by the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) here on Wednesday, Mr. Rao sought participation of NRAs in the form of contributing funds or ideas to help the Government realise its dream of converting the State into `Harithandhra Pradesh'.
Giving a pat to NRAs for contributing to the development of the State by adopting their native villages or donating funds for schools, colleges and hospitals, the Minister came up with a new idea of going Dutch.
Separate fund
He sought creation of a separate fund, from which, if an NRA comes up with a part of the amount required for a specific cause, the Government would contribute the remaining and take up the work.
