Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, DEC. 22. The woes of rail passengers due to shortage of staff at the computerised reservation counters in the local railway station, would be brought up at the meeting of the Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (Tiruchirapalli), on January 5 at Tiruchi, A. Balasubramanian, the general secretary of the Pondicherry Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Committee said in a release here. Two reservation counters had been functioning in the morning and evening and passengers had been satisfied. But now, while one of the counters continued to function like earlier, the other worked only for limited hours and this had given rise to frequent " disputes between the passengers and the counter staff." Mr. Balasubramanian said both counters should have adequate staff and have the same working hours. He said that the track between Villupuram and Pondicherry was brought under broad gauge after conversion from metre gauge in April. The authorities should revive the express train facility from Pondicherry to Chennai as the present facility of only passenger train service does not attract more passengers.
