`Squabbles in Congress affecting Government'

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, DEC. 22. The Pondicherry unit secretary of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, A. Anbalagan, today urged the Lt. Governor, M.M. Lakhera, to ensure that the Government did not suffer because of `squabbles within the ruling Congress.'

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Anbalagan said the former Home Minister, P. Kannan, expressed serious charges against the Rangasamy-led Government. Mr. Kannan said he himself faced an insecure situation at the hands of a section of `higher ups in the government.' This was a serious development and hence the Mr. Lakhera should intervene and ensure that peace prevailed in the Union Territory.

Mr. Anbalagan said the squabbles within the Congress had come into the open.

The incident on Monday at Mudaliarpet in which the police assaulted a 19-year-old boy showed that groupism in the party was on the rise.

He said implementation of welfare schemes had come to a halt with intense groupism percolating to every section of the party.
