APPSC to abide by Government
decision on Group-I posts
Speaking to reporters after calling on the Governor, S.K Shinde, at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday, Mr. Ramulu, said that the Commission was waiting for the Government decision. "We are ready to implement whatever directions the Government gives as the Commission is fully prepared." He said the examinations would be held as per schedule.
Lifer for six in murder case
Rayapati Venkata Reddy, Rayapati Ramanjaneyulu Reddy, Rayapati Bheema Reddy, Korrapdu Rami Reddy, Korrapadu Thimma Reddy and Kadiyam Rami Reddy were sentenced to life-term on the charge of murdering a Congress activist, Yerrapureddu Ramachandra Reddy, in Kodigandlapalle village of Muddanur mandal in Jammalamadugu constituency on December 4, 1999. Those acquitted were - Rayapati Thirupal Reddy, Rayapati Pedda Venkata Reddy, Kadiyam Ramasubba Reddy, Rayapati Pedda Venkatasubba Reddy, Rayapati Chinna Venkata Reddy, Rayapati Chinna Bali Reddy and Chinnaboyina Balasubba Reddy, for want of evidence of their complicity. The accused as well as those acquitted were TDP functionaries.
Plea against BC panel
"B.C. Mitrulu,'' represented by its convenor Kondala Rao, filed a writ petition in the High Court. The petitioners brought to the notice of a Division Bench comprising Justice B. Sudershan Reddy and Justice M. Narayana Reddy various provisions of the A.P. Commission of Backward Classes Act and contended that the Act referred to reservations regarding public employment only but not reservations in educational institutions. The Bench admitted the case and posted the matter for final hearing on January 18.

AITUC to organise workers
Addressing the press here on Wednesday, the AITUC vice-president, B. Rama Rao, and general secretary, P. J. Chandra Sekhara Rao, said that the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural Workers' Union had recently been affiliated to AITUC and efforts were being made to organise beedi-makers, `hamalis' and rickshaw-pullers into trade unions. They said that the AITUC was planning to organise them to fight for ESI cover, provident fund, housing benefits and safety issues.
Mala Mahanadu plans protest
P.V. Rao, president, said in a statement here on Wednesday that the agitation would be against the MRPS demand for enactment of legislation for categorisation in the Lok Sabha and opposing the resolution adopted by the State Assembly. It would convene a meeting here on January 5 of student representatives of universities in the State. This would be followed by a meet of the Mala sarpanches, mandal presidents, ZPTCs, MPTCs on January 6 and Mala advocates practising in the high court and lower courts on January 7.
