KOZHIKODE, DEC. 22. The BJP State president, P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, today renewed the demand for a CBI probe into the Marad massacre case. The need for a CBI probe has become more relevant in the light of the recent revelations about the hawala deals taking place in the State, Mr. Sreedharan Pillai told presspersons here. He said the disclosures made by former Director General of Police K.J. Joseph before the Marad Commission about an Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP) who was on duty at Marad at the time of the incident had also strengthened the demand. The BJP leader said the ACP's links with Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leaders should be probed and alleged there was scope for an investigation to find out if there were any connections between hawala deals and the Marad massacre.
Chandy flayed
Mr. Sreedharan Pillai also voiced strong protests against the dinner hosted for journalists in Delhi by the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, in Delhi. He said it was an attempt to whitewash the failures of the UDF Government. He was shocked by the reports that said liquor was served at the programme. The BJP leader also claimed that his party had clearly emerged as a winning force in Kerala. The clear and loud message given by party leader Pramod Mahajan at the recent party convention held in Palakkad has raised the confidence of the partymen. It was pointed out BJP already enjoyed the backing of an impressive 12.5 per cent of the voters in the State. But Mr. Pillai also said the BJP's unimpressive show in recent elections in the State was due to an misinformation campaign against the party, which, he believed, had demoralised party cadres.
Stir threat
BJP has drawn up plans to launch agitations for CBI probe into Marad massacre and hawala cases and to press for resignation of the Industries Minister, P.K. Kunhalikutty, from January 5. The agitations, beginning with a march to the Collectorates, were to drive home the point that both LDF and UDF were supporting Mr. Kunhalikutty, Mr. Sreedharan Pillai said.
