Seminar on minorities' rights
a seminar on "Minorities Rights: the Present and the Future". Addressing the seminar, social activist Swami Agniveesh said he felt ashamed that even after 20 years justice had been denied to the widows of the anti-Sikh riots. "Though over 3, 000 innocent Sikhs were killed in the riots, till today not a single individual has been punished. We have so many courts and lawyers, yet Sikhs have not got justice," he added. The DMC chairman, Abu Baker, presented a shawl to the Chief Secretary of Delhi Government, S. Regunathan, on the occasion. The DMC members Valson Thampu and P.S. Bawa were also present. Mr. Bawa expressed satisfaction over the fact that Punjabi and Urdu had been given the status of the second official language in Delhi.
Interior design show
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, the General Manager of Business India Exhibitions, Mohini Kewalramani, said: "We are witnessing a boom as the disposal income of the working class has increased. Awareness about interiors has also increased manifold among the younger generation. To encourage business we have sent 17, 000 invitation cards to architects operating from Delhi and adjoining regions." The exhibition will act as a facilitator between exhibitors and top-notch architects, builders and interior designers. About 70 per cent of the exhibitors would be from Delhi and the remaining 30 per cent from Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Jaipur.
Bill on plastic bags passed
Passed by voice vote, The Delhi Plastic Bag (Manufacture, Sales and Usage) and Non-Biodegradable Garbage (Control) Amendment Bill, 2004, provides for making "usage" of non-biodegradable plastic bags a punishable offence. Manufacture and sale of such plastic bags is already prohibited. The Bill also aims at prohibiting throwing of garbage, including non-biodegradable plastic bags, and religious material in the Yamuna.
Cultural festival organised
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sharma highlighted the quality control and smart learning training methodology for which the IACM won the prestigious National Golden Peacock Innovative Product/Service Award 2002 and the Golden Peacock National Training Award 2004 for excellence in education and training sector.
