Group-I aspirants' rally a dampener

HYDERABAD, DEC. 22. A rally by aspirants of Group-I services seeking inclusion of all the existing vacancies in the present notification failed to get the desired response from the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

However, Dr. Reddy left some space for discussion inviting a delegation of aspirants for a meeting to be held with officials on Thursday. He assured them that if the number of vacancies was large, the Government would consider postponing the Group-I mains as desired by the students. About 1,000 aspirants from different parts of the State met the Chief Minister at the Lake View Guest House on Wednesday.

Aspirants' contention

The aspirants said that 303 additional vacancies, which were not included in the present notification, existed as per the records sent by the heads of different departments. But even these numbers were false as the actual unnotified vacancies were more than 1,000. The last notification was issued for 528 vacancies. Of these, 290 vacancies were of MPDOs, while the number of sought-after posts like RDOs, DSPs and CTOs was very less. The major demand of the aspirants was the postponement of the mains starting from January 19 so that all the vacancies could be included to accommodate more candidates.

Speaking to the candidates, the Chief Minister said that his Government understood the anxiety of the youth and was making all efforts to fill the vacancies. He asked the students to come as a delegation with facts and figures for a meeting with the officials and if the figure was correct, he would respond favourably to their demand for postponement.

According to the candidates, the number of vacant RDO posts was 81 but only 21 were notified. Similarly, 84 CTO vacancies existed and only 16 were notified while 22 DSP posts were notified while 93 vacancies existed. Similar is the case with all posts under Group-I. The aspirants argued that 30 per cent of posts in each department should be filled through direct recruitment. But some officials were filling some of these vacancies through ad hoc appointments and this anomaly should be rectified.
