NEW DELHI, DEC. 22. An engineer was found hanging from the ceiling in a telephone exchange office in New Delhi on Tuesday. While the police said it was a case of suicide, the family members of the deceased claimed that was no reason for the deceased to take his own life. According to the police, the body of Rakesh Kumar, a sub-divisional officer, was found hanging in a room in his office at North Block, Gate No. 8, by a constable of the Central Industrial Security Force around 10-30 p.m. Around the same time, the family members of Mr. Kumar, a resident of Asia House on Canning Road, who were looking for him since the evening also reached the spot and identified his body. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. The police said Mr. Kumar, who was handling telephone connections in the North Block, South Block and Shastri Bhawan, had committed suicide by hanging himself with the help of a telephone cord. They added that preliminary investigations indicated that Mr. Kumar was apparently depressed over some issue. However, Mr. Kumar's family members claimed that the possibility of him committing suicide was remote as he was leading a fairly satisfied life. His daughter was preparing for her Class X examinations and seemed to be doing well and so was his teenaged son. They also claimed that there was neither any rift in the family nor was there any financial crisis. The family members also alleged that Mr. Kumar's colleagues did not provide a satisfactory answer when they inquired about him last evening. They told them that they had checked the entire office and he was nowhere to be seen, the family claimed. Mr. Kumar was apparently last seen around 3-30 p.m. while the office closes around 6 p.m.
