Off with a bridge
WELLINGTON,
DEC.23.
Thieves have dismantled and carried off most of a 30-metre aluminium bridge over a wetland on New Zealand's South Island, probably to sell for scrap. The felons took aluminium base-plates, side panels and one entire section of framework. Officials had used a helicopter to construct the bridge, which was mainly used by hikers and wheelchairs for access to the wetlands. It was worth about Rs. 12.6 lakhs.
