By Our Special Correspondent

KOLKATA, DEC. 24. Rajendra Singh Lodha, the man at the epicentre of the ongoing tussle over the ownership of the assets of M. P. Birla, today won a reprieve with respect to the criminal case filed against him by the Birlas.

The Calcutta High Court said that the lower court, hearing the criminal case should not take up the matter before it was heard by the High Court on January 11, 2005. The criminal case, which has been filed under several sections of the IPC, including cheating and breach of trust, was slated to come up for hearing at the Alipore Court on January 7.

Justice P. N. Sinha who is now hearing the case after Justice D. P. Sengupta released the matter from his court last week, made these observations during today's hearing.
