Mamata's gesture to footballer's family
KOLKATA,
DEC. 23
. The Nationalist Trinamool Congress leader, Mamata Banerjee, donated Rs. 50,000 to the family of the deceased Brazilian footballer, Cristiano Junior on Thursday.
The amount was raised from an auction of Ms. Banerjee's works on canvas. The money was meant for needy children.
Three paintings, out of around 300 drawings and paintings brushed by the Trinamool MP, went under the hammer raising a total Rs. 2.3 lakhs.
Ms. Banerjee said Junior's on-field death in the Federation Cup final was tragic and the help was meant to support his family in distress.
