ERODE, DEC. 23. As many as 27 municipal councillors of the 45-member Erode Municipality including the Vice-Chairman presented a joint petition to the Municipal Chairman, M. Subramanian, and the Commissioner, Jayaraman, at the `Public Relation Day' held at the Erode Municipal Office recently. Giving details of the petition, S. Gopal, an AIADMK councillor, representing ward VII, said that for the past three years, all the 45 councillors of the Municipality, had submitted grievances on many issues after meeting residents of the respective wards. These related to laying of roads, water supply, sinking of borewells, installation of streetlights and the like. Though the Council had passed many resolutions, many were not implemented.
`Pass resolutions'
In the joint petition, the Vice-Chairman, N. Market Raja (AIADMK), councillors belonging to the DMK, AIADMK, the Congress and independent councillors said that at least 1,000 such petitions were pending with the municipality. They said if the resolutions (on issues raised by public) presented by them were passed and executed, there would be no need for conducting the grievances day or public relation day in the municipality.
