KANNUR, DEC. 23. The Electricity Minister, Aryadan Mohammed, today said the State Government had submitted to the Union Governmente a Rs. 350-crore proposal for projects to remedy the problem of voltage shortage in hill, coastal and scheduled community areas in the State.
New sub-station
Laying the foundation stone for a 33-Kv sub-station at Alakkode here, the Minister said that the projects would be given top priority once the proposal wassanctioned by the Union Government. The Minister said the sub-station, being built at Alakkode with the objective of improving electricity transmission and distribution system in the hill areas of the district, would be completed by March 2006. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 3.25 crores, the Electricity Minister said.
Electricity transfers
Mr. Mohammed said 10 new electricity transfers would be installed in the hill areas of the district within one-and-a-half months. As many as 1,007 transfers had already been installed under the 100-day action plan of the Government, the Minister said. The Kerala State Electricity Board had provided 1,93,000 new connections under the plan, including 43,000 connections to families below poverty line. The Irikkur MLA, K.C.
