Rupee recovers

MUMBAI, DEC. 23. After a brief overnight correction, the rupee today closed higher at 43.76/77 a dollar, driven up by healthy trade and foreign institutional investment inflows in mostly quiet trading at the interbank foreign exchange market ahead of the Christmas holiday overseas. Surging by seven and half paise from Wednesday's finish of 43.8350/8450, the rupee was a whisker away from 43.7150/7250, struck at the close of business on December 7, and within the striking distance of 43.64/65 clocked at the end of dealings on December 6.
