MADIKERI, DEC. 23. The Kodagu Deputy Commissioner, Srikant Valagad, on Thursday, called upon officials designated labour inspectors to help rescue child labourers and rehabilitate them. He was inaugurating a training programme for labour inspectors, an official press release said. Mr. Valagad called upon the officers to implement the regulations regarding eradication of child labour in the district. The officers should not hesitate to initiate action against the people who engaged children in work, he said. The Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat, P.L. Budihal, said children who lived below the poverty line were mostly engaged as child labourers. They should be identified and rehabilitated by providing them education.
