PATHANAMTHITTA, DEC. 23. The Leader of the Opposition, V. S. Achuthanandan, will inaugurate the district meeting of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) at Kozhencherry on December 26. Addressing a press conference at Kozhencherry today, the CPI(M) district secretary, K. Ananthagopan, said that a total of 277 delegates, representing the 16,738 effective members of the party in the district, would attend the district meet to be held at the St. Thomas Church Auditorium (E.K.Nayanar Nagar) at Kozhencherry from December 26 to 28. Mr. Ananthagopan said that the meetings of 1,348 branch committees, 97 local committees and nine taluk and area committees of the party in the district have already been completed. Mr. Achuthanandan will inaugurate the delegates session at 10.30 a.m. on December 26. The cultural meeting to be held at Vandipettah in Kozhencherry will be inaugurated by Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, MLA, at 4.30 p.m. later. A total of 5,000 red volunteers and not less than 50,000 party workers would participate in the massive rally to be held as part of the valedictory ceremony of the three-day meet on December 28.
Public meeting
Mr. Achuthanandan will inaugurate the public meeting at the Panchayat stadium later. The LDF convener, Paloli Muhammedkutty, and the CPI(M) leaders, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, P. K. Sreemathi, S. Sarma, Thomas Issac and M.Chandran will also address the meeting. The CPI(M) district leaders, K.C.Rajagopal, A.Padmakumar and Babu Koickalethu also attended the press meet.
