PATHANAMTHITTA, DEC. 23. The Water Resources Minister, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, has said that Pathanamthitta and Palakkad were the two districts that have been included in the Centrally-sponsored Command Area Development Authority (CADA) to resolve the acute drinking water scarcity in these areas. Inaugurating the Rs. 56.27-lakh project to renovate the Valiyathode at Adoor today, Mr. Radhakrishnan said that the State was most likely to get a Central fund of Rs. 147 crores for completing the Kallada Irrigation Project by including it in the CADA. He said that 10 drinking water supply schemes would be completed in the district in the coming months, besides the 16 projects which have already been completed.
Roads to be tarred
The Minister said that steps have already been taken for tarring all the canal roads, besides repairing the KIP canal roads. The Minister said that the first phase of the Valiyathode renovation project included its deepening by removing mud accumulated over the years, fencing and steps to check the flow of filth into it. The Adoor municipal chairman, Babu Divakaran, presided over the meeting. The District Panchayat president, K. K. Royson, the vice-president, Thoppil Gopakumar, member, Sudha Kurup, and the Parakode block panchayat president, Padmini Vidyadharan, also spoke.
