Shinde emphasises women's role in development

By Our Staff Reporter

WARANGAL, DEC. 23. Youth and women are the only hope of the nation and there is no doubt they will turn it around by 2015 instead of 2020 as is being predicted by politicians, said the Governor, Sushil Kumar Shinde.

The Governor, who was on a whirlwind tour to the district today, interacted with presidents of mandal mahila samakhyas at Samskruthi Vihar. He said women in rural areas witnessed a lot of development and the self-help movement infused confidence in them.

"Men were dominating the political scene in villages some years ago. But now, the situation has changed. Women are able to come out and assert themselves," he noted.

Eulogising the democratic set-up, Mr. Shinde said the Ministers who were sitting along with him, perhaps, never dreamed of becoming one 25 years ago.

Political participation

But in a democracy, it was possible. No doubt one day, women would dominate the political scene in the country and they would make it one of the most developed nations in the world. After going round the exhibits put up by SHGs, the Governor expressed satisfaction with the quality and said they were as good as products of branded companies.

The Governor exhorted women's groups to strive to create awareness among the rural poor on malnutrition and illiteracy.
