By Our Staff Reporter

HINDUPUR, DEC. 23. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Thursday termed the death of the former Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao, a great loss to the country and to the Congress as he was a great leader and strategist.

At a condolence meeting held here on the premises of R&B guest house he said PV was a "Telugu bidda' who rose to the highest political post in the country, Prime Minister. As Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh he had introduced land reforms to help uplift the dalits and backward classes by making special laws.

He was also father of economic reforms who had brought private investment for development of infrastructure facilities in the country. PV had also worked for creating infrastructure in rural areas and had spent Rs. 30,000 crores for rural development during his five-year tenure as Prime Minister. PV had a special bond with Anantapur as he had his political guru from the district in Kalluru Subba Rao. Anantapur was one of the first districts visited by him after becoming Prime Minister and he had sanctioned the Desert Development Programme to the district to prevent desertification, Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy recalled.
