VIJAYAWADA, DEC. 23. Surapaneni Sitaramaiah, a paddy farmer, has reaped a record yield of 42 bags (each 55 kg) from his 60-cent plot at Maredumaka village in Kankipadu mandal. The farmer was meticulous in all the steps -- from transplantation to crop-cutting -- which ultimately helped him reap a record harvest in the entire mandal. He used the MTU-1071 variety in his field. In a press release issued here on Thursday, the Agricultural Officer (T&V), Kankipadu, said that while Sitaramaiah spent Rs. 4,339, he earned Rs. 13,275, pocketing a profit of Rs. 8,936.
