THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, DEC. 23. An A-320 aircraft of Indian Airlines that was coming from Male made an emergency landing at the international airport here today following a suspected snag in one of the front tyres. Airport officials said the aircraft landed safely under full emergency measures around 3.20 p.m. after hovering over for 20 minutes in the vicinity of the airport. All the 121 passengers and the crew aboard the IC 964 flight that came from Male are safe although the aircraft landed on its rear wheels, sources said. The pilot of the aircraft that was coming to Thiruvananthapuram, Capt. Sebastian, alerted the Air Traffic Control (ATC) around 2.30 p.m. after the Male airport authorities informed him that a piece of tyre was found on the runway immediately after the flight took off from Male. The ATC alerted the Airport Authority of India authorities who sounded an emergency and informed the city police, Kerala Fire and Rescue Services, city hospitals and other services to meet any eventuality. The aircraft was towed to the parking bay around 4.20 p.m. by the authorities. Later, the aircraft left for Chennai as IC 932 at 5.45 p.m. Sources said Qatar Airways flight that was coming from Doha to Thiruvananthapuram was diverted to Kochi as the flight that made the emergency landing got stranded at the airport for over an hour.
