Jacob resents PSC revamp

By Our Staff Reporter

THRISSUR, DEC. 23. The Kerala Congress (Jacob) group leader, T.M. Jacob, has criticised the reconstitution of the Public Service Commission (PSC) by the UDF Government without proper consultation with the partners of the ruling coalition.

Addressing a press conference today, Mr. Jacob said that the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, had arbitrarily reconstituted the PSC by breaching the promises made by him (Mr. Chandy) to the Kerala Congress (Jacob).

Mr. Jacob said the Chief Minister had assured him (Mr. Jacob) in last July that one member would be nominated to the PSC either from the Jacobite or Orthodox sections. Mr. Jacob said that as per the assurance, he had held consultations with the heads of both these sections and they had suggested the names of their nominees, Mr. Jacob said.

He said the decision to enhance the number of PSC members to 18 went against the UDF's policy of cutting public expenditure. He demanded that the decision be reversed and the strength of the PSC be brought back to the earlier level immediately.
