CHITRADURGA, DEC. 23. Y. Nagappa, Minister for Social Welfare, has promised to increase the intake of students in the hostels across the State. Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, Dr. Nagappa said that he would chalk out an exhaustive plan to improve the hostels after consultation with officers.
Surprise checks
Coming down heavily on officers, who are in-charge of the hostel and not discharging the duties properly, he said that he would conduct surprise checks on the hostels. He asked the elected representatives and members of the standing committees in zilla panchayat to go to hostels for surprise inspection and improve the system. He also promised to take measures to stop the pilferage through hostels. A few aided hostels were misusing the funds by presenting fictitious figures.
Blacklisted
They supply of groceries and other items were not according to specifications in a few government hostels. The suppliers of such hostels would be blacklisted and prosecuted, he added. He also assured that the aid for private hostels would be released as soon as possible. Dr. Nagappa paid a surprise visit to various hostels in Bharama Sagar and Chitradurga. H. Anjaneya, Bharama Sagar MLA, along with various other officials, accompanied the Minister.
