Dalit samiti celebrates `Day of Rights'

Our Staff Correspondent

BIDAR, DEC. 23. Members of the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Sagar) organised a rally in Bidar on Thursday as part of a State-wide celebration of B.R. Ambedkar's Maha Pari Nibbana Dina as the Day of Rights of the deprived. The members walked in a procession through the main streets of the town and assembled for a public function at Ambedkar circle. They submitted a memorandum to the Government demanding the strict implementation of land reforms, the distribution of excess government land among the landless, and stricter enforcement of anti-atrocity laws.

They also wanted the Government to sort out problems of issuing ration cards to families living below the poverty line, and the allotment of houses to the poor. They have urged the Government to pass an Act to guarantee employment immediately. Members of the Danlit Sangharsha Samiti (M) and the Raitha Sangha staged a rally in Bidar on Wednesday urging the Government not to disconnect power supply to irrigation pumpsets of defaulting farmers.

Baburao Paswan, Bakkappa Dandin, Shivakanth Have and others were present.
