Thrissur
By Our Staff Reporter
THRISSUR, DEC. 23. The Thrissur Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), C.D. Kuriakkose, has ordered the closure of the pig-breeding centre being run by the Kerala Livestock Development (KLD) Board at Kainur village in the district in view of the pollution from the centre. According to the order issued by Mr. Kuriakkose, reports from the Thrissur Tahsildar and District Medical Officer have established that the pig-breeding centre is causing air, water and environmental pollution. This, in turn, was likely to cause health problems to the people of the area, including the spread of infectious diseases, he said. The order said the pig-breeding centre should be closed down within 60 days and that it must be shifted to another place where it was unlikely to cause health problems. The RDO has given time till January 12 to KLD board officials to submit their explanations for not implementing the order. The order has been issued based on the complaints filed by representatives of organisations fighting against the alleged pollution.
